Blue Scope Coated Products Roof Replacement
Rancho Cucamonga, CA

This project involved the complete structural replacement of the roof system at an active industrial coating facility. The project addressed aging infrastructure by replacing the existing glulam rafters, wood joists, and wood sheathing with a modern, code-compliant steel-framed roof system designed for enhanced durability, longevity, and low maintenance.
Artin provided comprehensive structural engineering services, beginning with a 3D laser scan and development of as-built models of the existing tilt-up wall system and roof framing. These models informed the structural analysis of the existing conditions and guided the design of new steel rafters, purlins, and a standing seam metal roof. The new steel components were carefully integrated with the existing tilt-up wall panels to maintain compatibility while improving load paths and structural performance.
The project included preparation of complete construction drawings and structural calculation packages, including framing plans, connection details, anchorage systems, and section views—ensuring compliance with current California Building Code (CBC), seismic, and wind loading requirements. Artin also supported the permitting process, responding to plan check comments and making required revisions in coordination with city reviewers and the client’s construction team.
Construction-phase support included shop drawing reviews, coordination with the general contractor, and up to six site visits to verify design intent and field implementation. The structural upgrade not only extended the service life of the facility but also supported continued industrial operations during construction. The estimated construction value for this roof replacement was approximately $14 million.
