Artin provided comprehensive structural engineering services for the renovation and expansion of The Children's Place, Kansas City's leading trauma-informed early childhood education program and counseling center. Located at 6401 Rockhill Rd., Kansas City, MO, this project involved the transformation of two existing buildings and the construction of a new connecting link, totaling 45,000 gross square feet.

 

Collaborating with HOK Architects, Artin's contributions included designing retaining walls, reinforcing existing floors to accommodate increased live loads due to changes in occupancy, engineering the new link structure with rooftop unit (RTU) support, creating a new entrance bus drop-off canopy, overseeing construction administration, and developing the parking lot layout. Completed in 2020 with a construction cost of $6.7 million, the facility has enabled The Children's Place to serve 30% more children and families, providing a nurturing environment that promotes healing and growth.
